Abuse is when someone takes advantage of someone physically or mentally. Some people reconcile the abuse. Then others don’t. In the story the color purple characters often are being abused. Both men and women are the victims of abuse. Some reconcile the abuse and some don’t.

First of all in the story the character that is being abused the worst is Celie. She is abused by her father. Her father basically rapes her and beats for no reason. In the story Celie got pregnant twice. Then her father killed the first baby and gave away the other.

Then another incident was he beat was when he thought she looked at a boy. Celie basically tried to get away from her father and forget about what he did. So she did that by getting married. But her husband wasn’t different from her father because he used to beat his ex-wife too. So that is how Celie tried to reconcile her abuse which affected her mentally and physically.

Then in the story there was a character named Sofia who abused her husband. Her husband name was Harpo. He was often told by his father to beat Sofia to show her who is in charge. But Harpo didn’t want to so Sofia abused him. So he reconciled because he loved her no matter what.

Then there was another woman named Shung Avery. She was a woman who did whatever she wanted too. She often abused men without a care. In the story it said she once had a husband and cheated on him and left him. All the men are after her but she doesn’t care she treats like their nothing. In the Story Celie describes her as evil. Celie also says she is like a female version of her father.

So in conclusion characters in the story are often being abused. Some reconcile and some don’t. Some do it out of love and some do it because they don’t care and they want to be in charge. In the story Celie is being abuse by her father. Then she gets away from him but is still being abused by her husband,

Then Sofia abuses her husband Harpo. But Sofia and Harpo still love each other. Then Shung Avery abuses men all the time. She abused her ex-husband, but now she abuses any man that is after her. She is like a female version of Celie’s father. That is how characters are abused and reconcile in the story The Color Purple.

Abuse occurs when people mistreat or misuse anyone with feelings shows no concern for their integrity or innate worth as individuals and in a manner that degrades their well being. many women and even men are being abused in this story.

Celie and Harpo are the once who are abused most in this story. Celie is abused by her own father, he raped her, beat her and called her all kinds of mean names to make her feel bad about her self. He beat her even when he thinks she's looking at other boys.

Celie ended up having two kids for her father, but he killed the first child and he gave the second one away. She wanted to get away from her father so by that she gets married, but the man she got married too isnt any different from her father. he beats women too, he beat his ex-wife and now his beating celie and works her like she's a slave.

Shung Avery i would say is a different kind of abuser, she abuse her men Shung abused every man she ever dated and is going to abuse any man that come in her life.

harpo is sofia's husband and they love each other very much, but they fight all the time harpo was told by his father he need to beat his wife to let her know who had the upper hand in the relationship, but little did he know sofia was a strong woman she's been fighting her whole life.

In conclusion i would say as abused goes on in this story, somewhat of it becomes love like harpo and sofia and on the other hand with celie it doesnt look so pretty. i dont think they respond very well to the abused but to reconcileing the treatment, i would sat celie reconciled a lot in ths story.

    Essay Question #2 Color Purple

Reconcile is a cause to accept or be resigned to something not desired. Abuse is to use wrongly or improperly or revile. Treatment is an action or behavior toward a person. You can treat a person many different ways that can cause them to react differently. This book has many different examples of different emotions and how they deal with it.

In the book Color Purple there are a various type of personalities that can show different emotion out of a person. The treatment of people in this book is caused by angry and superiority. They beat on you just for the simple fact that you’re weaker than them or you’re a female. Or it’s the other way around.

One character that stands out is Mr. __’s mistress Shug Avery. She abuses men with her sex appeal and love. She breaks their heart and toys with their emotion. And the way Mr. __ coops with his broken heart is by beating on Celie or having sex with her. Shug is strong independent women that do what’s done often to young women.

Another strong independent woman was Sofia. She happens to be Harpo’s wife. Her husband tries to beat on her because his father thinks he’s weak because he don’t beat her and she do whatever she wants whenever she wants. But the turnaround is that when he hits her they began to fight continuously and she beat him up. She deals with her pain by playing with her children and not spending anytime with him…and he deals with his pain by clearing his head.

Celie is another victim of abuse in this book. She has been getting abused for a while now. She gets raped and abused by every man she meets. And the way she deals with her pain is by writing to god everyday and by fighting for her little sister Nettie. She care about what happens to her but more so what happens to Nettie because she’s pretty, smart and she’s going to make it. And she doesn’t what any man trying to spoil her.

I feel as though that abuse is something that no one should have to experience but unfortunately some do. What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger and we learn from it so we won’t have to deal with it again. But some do, and they continuously let it happen until it get so bad their emotional and mentally hurt.

In conclusion these characters have many different ways of dealing with abuse because of their personality. It all depends on how self confident they are and how they carry themselves so they can defend their selves on the level abuse. Abuse helps bring out the important parts in the book and different emotion out of the characters.

The word abuse means to mistreat or by inflicting physical and sexual harm on someone. In the novel color purple some of the characters are being abused either physically or sexually they are still being mistreated. Some of the characters that were being abused by other character whom thought themselves superior to other were; Sofia, Celie, Shrug Avery, and Mary Agnes.
At the beginning the novel Sofia was an independent woman, she fought back and she didn’t take disrespect from anybody. “All my life I had to fight. I had to fight my daddy. I had to fight my cousins and uncles. A girl child isn’t same in a family of me. But I never thought I’d had to fight in my own home”. She refused to become the major’s wife companion; she saw that as a rude jester towards her, because she was black. Later on the novel she is sent to jail, where she was beaten and disfigured. But at the she ended up working for the same woman she rebelled against. In jail she was beaten and broken, it was like she no more of the high spirit she always had. But her love and her family’s love brought back from the loneness she felt.

Another character that was that was abused was Celie; she was abused sexually and emotionally. Her dad always told her that she had the most “ugliest smiles” from since then she always covering up her smiles. She was even raped by her dad; she had two kids for him. The novel then moved on to saying that she was always afraid to stand up for herself. Instead of standing up to people she always toke the beaten, she just didn’t know who to defend herself.

In my opinion Shrug Avery was abused emotionally. She was mad at the world so she took her anger out on the people around. She started to stop caring for her family and even herself. She wanted forgiveness from her dad but she was burden with guilt. Shrug Avery was beautiful, but to me she was scare and her anger was a way to hide her pain. But in the end she ended up as a strong and independent woman.

Mary Agnes never stood up for herself. She always blinded into what ever life she was suppose to blind into. She had dreams but her kids and other responsibilities stop her from becoming a blues singer. She loved to sing but at the same time she was afraid. In my opinion the other character thought her dumb and stupid. In the end though she got to start and accomplish her dreams.

I end this essay by saying that while reading the novel color purple, some of the characters have gone through some type of abused. They overcame it different ways, but in the end they got what they wanted it. They proved to themselves that they are strong and can be independent. The characters faced theirs fears, and they solve them by standing up for themselves.
