Relationship means getting involvement or having some kind of connection with someone. Transformation means changing from something to a different thing. Oppression means the exercise of authority or power in a burdensome cruel or unjust manner. Finally resistance mean the act or power of resisting opposing or withstanding.
Paula Giddings explanation of the relationship between men and women were socially descriped and deformed as lens of sexism which men were were believed to take advantage of women and maintain their power of control.
In the color purple as i read many women were abused, beaten up all the time by the men.The men in the color purple believe is the right thing to beat the women because their weaker and aren't able to fight back or stand up for themselves.
Celie the main character in the color purple was the one who got the most beaten in this story. She was treated like a slave and through of as a useless been and this went on half her life thinking no one cared or loved her.
The way Paula Giddings talked about women is that the slave women were held in lower regard than the black men. In my opinion i think black men had it better then the women, many of the women were raped or as they say just slept with and many of the black women were inpregnated by the while men.
The women and men from Paula Giddings book and the color purple have so much in common and im saying this because from what Paula said about the women being treated pretty badly and the men were too but not had bad as the women did and in the color purple women were treated poorly because men believe that was the way women were supposed to be beaten and put to work and just sleep with them whenever they pleased to let them know who was the boss/man of the house and thats almost the way the white men through.

Period 9
Oppression is the feeling of being heavily burdened, mentally, or physically, by troubles, adverse conditions, and anxiety. Resistance is the act or power of resisting, opposing, or withstanding. Transformation is a sudden change in form, appearance, nature, or character. Ceile transformed tremendously after she married Mr.___. This essay will talk about how men and woman in black families relate to the book “Color Purple”.
In the book Color Purple it talks about how the men have the upper hand in the household and how they are superior toward the woman. They treat their woman like trash and sometimes mistreat them for their own enjoyment. In the book they get physically and mentally abused by their husbands that “care” for them.
Paula Giddings explains in her article that woman get mistreated even worse than the average woman in the “Color Purple”. They are sexist because the men still have the upper hand and have the power to do whatever it is that they want without being told not to.
Men and Woman in black families struggle a lot for respect and acceptance. But a majority of the time it’s mostly the woman trying to make things work out with her husband when things go wrong. The relationship that they share is that in both situations the woman are being belittled and battered for no reason at all.
Paula Giddings state strong facts about woman being beat over the littlest things and just like in the book the men do not care. You can get beaten if you’re not on time with whatever it was that you had to do, if you talk back to your husband, and you couldn’t even go out when you felt like it, that’s how strict they were about them.
I feel bad for these women because they are being treated as if they are not human as well. They do not stand up for themselves or let the men know how they are feeling because they’re afraid that they might get beaten or tortured they way they been getting. It one takes one time to take pride and dignity from someone after that there’s no more unless they stand up for themselves.
In conclusion the article and the book have a great relationship explaining men and woman in black families. Hopefully one day we get it right but until then, we as woman have to show the man that we do have a voice.

Oppression means the exercise of authority or power in a burdensome, cruel, or unjust manner. Relationship is a connection, association, or involvement. Resistance the act or power of resisting, opposing, or withstanding. This is about how the "Color Purple" talks about how womens are getting mistreated. Its also about the relationships they got between the women and men.
In the "Color Purle" Ceile goes thru alot in her life. She is being mistreated from her father but not only him, to the person she has married as well. But this all started from her father. She was being abused and raped from him.
She had a slave life during her time. Even though this book was written afterwards slave was over, she was still treated as a slave. She was the women who had to take care of duties in the house. Such as cleaning, doing laundry, and cooking. That was her life, and if she didn't there was going to be problems.
In the story they explain how men and women are differently. The way that they are differently is because womens are treated like they are worth nothing. Mens do what ever they want with them. If anything they would get abused from them. Nobody said nothing about it cause alot of men were doing that.
Do you think womens put there footdown when a man is beating them? No, they did not put there footdown. They were considered not a strong person. They were scared of the mens.
Paula Giddings was just trying to prove a point. She was talking about how womens are the weakest because they let a man screw there life over. For whatever you did it was going to hold something against you.
How does this relate to Black Families? It relates alot because is something they also went thru similar to this. Like they were also getting beatens and the men was taking over of what the wife was doing. She always had to do her duties but she would get verbaly and physically abused.
In conclusion, Paula Giddings had a good point on describing how womens were treated by men. By reading this essay im hoping you understand the similarities the book has with Black families and there strugles.

Transformation is when someone or something changes. When you resist is when you oppose something. Then a relationship is when two or more things have a connection. Chapter 2 by Paula Giddings shows a connection with the color purple using resistance and transformation. The following paragraphs will show their relationships.
In Chapter 2 by Paula Giddings black women were constantly beating by their masters. Black women had no say in anything. The women were just taken and beaten if they did something wrong. The men basically controlled everything. This relates to the color purple.
In the book the color purple the women had to always obey the men. The men had the controlled in the household. In the story Ceile was constantly beaten by Mr. ____. She was beaten if he thought she looked at another boy. But when really she wasn’t. This relates because men basically were right even if they were wrong.
In chapter 2 the women tried resist. They did that by trying to kill their masters. They did that by trying to poison them. In the color purple Ciele showed resistance also. Ciele tried to kill Mr. ___.
Also in chapter two men were allowed to have mistresses. Then in the color purple Mr.____ had a mistress. This shows that black families tried to be like the white families. But they were basically not allowed to be like them chapter 2. But in color purple they had a little bit of more freedom like the white people.
So in chapter 2 by Paula Giddings women especially black women had no rights. In color purple they didn’t have rights either. They were constantly beaten for no reason or when they did something wrong. Also the men were right even when they were wrong. So the men controlled the society and the house hold.
Also in chapter 2 and in the color purple the women tried to resist. They did that by trying to kill their masters. Then in both chapter 2 and The Color Purple the families tried to be like the white families. In chapter 2 white men were allowed to have mistresses and a wife. Then in the color purple the Mr.____ had a mistress like in the white men. That is the relation ship between black women and families in Chapter 2 by Paula Giddings and in The Color Purple.

Family is a group of individuals living under one roof and usually under one head; a group of persons of common ancestry. Transformation is the operation of changing; an act, process, or instance of transforming or being transformed. Opperssion is unjust or cruel exercise of authority or power; a sense of being weighed down in body or mind. Celie did under go opperssion now that I know the definition of the word. Also now that I know the true meaning of transformation.
Paula Giddings and the Color Purple they kind of had the same thoughts with black families and the way that women were treated. Paula Giddings she talked about black women like the men were over her. That was true to because women were not over the men. But some women say that they can do what ever a man can do. In some cases I beleive that is true. One thing that caught my eye and Ithought was good is when Paula Giddings said "that those who dont know our dont know their own."
One thing about the women that Paula Giddings were talking about that Celie had in common with them is the way that they were beaten. They were some times beaten for nothing. Today their are still wome that are beaten by their mate. Celie she was one women that was beaten for nothing and she was also beaten for not doing somthing rite. In the Paula Giddings paper it said why those women were beaten and its the same as Celie.
The definition that I got for family is a group of individuals living under one roof and usually under one head; a group of persons of common ancestry. The way that Paula Giddings explained is was that some families they struggled. Today you still have families that are struggling. But the type of struggling that she was talking about was the respect struggle.
I know that if in those days they had the women in these days that some of those things probably would not happened. I can say that there are a lot of women that are hardcore and dont take nothing from any man. One women that some women act like now is Sofia. She was one hardcore women until she was put in to jail that changed her whole thoughts of the things that she did.
Paula Giddings wrote that "blacks were seen as less than human." Paula Giddings also said that "even black women were to be considered tithable and they in no what expect to be admitted to full fruition." Tithe is a tenth part of one's annual income contributed voluntarily or due as a tax, especially for the support of the clergy or church. So women had to pay that. Also one more thing that Paula Giddings said that caught my eye is when she was talking about the black and how they resisted. They resisted by burning their masters house, products, and outhouse and how they didn't just burn them they burned them to the ground. But every slave that she talked about they all suffered from a punishment mean death in most cases.
Now to talk about the mean in the color purple time and slave time. Color Purple men they were very strict and stupid at some points. Mr. he was strict to Celie he was so strict she couldn't even talk to her own sister. The men in color purple the only used them girls for two things sex, and to clean their house. Celie stepfather he had two baby's by here and he made her clean no school but clean and have sex with her. Then Mr. came around and he wanted her sister but could not get her. So he had to take Celie and he did the same thing that her father did except have baby's by her. So that's all the men in color purple wanted.

Lastly the men that Paula Giddings talks about are kind of like the color purple men. They have the same mind set of the color purple men. They beat there women to they beat them if they combed their hair the wrong way probably. So they basically treated their women wrong a way that women should not be treated because they are human beings and that's what I think about it. So as you can see the men in color purple and the men in slave day that Paula Giddings was talking about are the same.

Abuse is an improper treatment or usage. Fear is an emotional response to a perceived threat. Power is the ability to control one's environment or other entities. There was thousands of women being mistreated in the novel "The Color Purple" also in the passage on Paula Giddings. Paula Giddings feelings about black families and men is that the men have more power over women and she didn't like it because of the things men use to do.
The men had a role and they followed it. Then men were the one's who did all the hard work. I would say the men were like a slave master when they would marry someone. I say that because women had to do as they were told. The average man role was to go to work make all the mone support their families and be in power.
The women also had a role to follow. The women of the house main job is to make sure their house is always clean. They had to take care of the children. Also cook all the meals for the house and making sure everyone is pleased. So basically the average woman job/role was to be a housewife, which is to cook, clean, etc.
The realationship the women and the men had together i was speechless. It was so bad the women where treated like dirt. The women use to get beaten by the men. The men would rape the women and take all of their pride while their doing it. The women had no say so in anything so they couldn't do anything about the way they were being treated.
Paula Giddings did not like the fact that men use to mistreat women and beat them. She hated the fact that the women were treated so wrong but they did so much for the person who did it to them. Paula feel as though woman should always be treated with love and respect. I feel the same way a women should never be treated the way they were in The Color Purple novel and the passage about Paula Giddings.
The passage about Paula Giddings and the novel "The Color Purple" are similar in many ways. One similar thing is the treatment of women. Celie was a fearful women. She learned to resist being so afraid by meting and talking to her friend Shug Avery who was a independent women who knew what she wanted. As the novel continues you start to see that Celie is becoming a brave and independent women.
In conclusion Paula Giddings did not like how women were treated. Celie becomes stronger from listening and watching her good friend/lover Shug Avery. Women didn't really have a say so in anything but they did a lot of work. The men did all the hard labor and stayed in control. In both reading passages the women are treated the same which makes them similar. I believe you should know all the answers to the questions you ask from reading my essay.
The book that we are reading in class is The color purple.
ReplyDeleteThis book explores the individual identity of the African-American woman and how embracing that identity and bonding with other women affects the health of her community at large. Besides woman identity it shows the relationship between men and women. The relationship they focus mostly on celie because, ofcourse she is the main character of the book.
After her mother's death, Celie becomes responsible for the upkeep of the house and the rearing of her younger siblings, including her sister Nettie. When Mr. __son, Harpo, brings home Sophia—his prospective wife—Celie is exposed for the first time to a proud, strong female figure. Sophia is outspoken and refuses to conform to Harpo's and Mr. ___stereotypical model of an obedient spouse. After Harpo repeatedly beats her, Sophia leaves and is eventually arrested for assaulting a white man.
A turning point in Celie's life as a lover. Through this relationship, Celie begins to feel loved and develops newfound occurs when Mr. ___mistress, Shug Avery, moves in to recuperate after an illness. Another strong-willed woman, Shug is a sexy, spirited blues singer, and Celie is obsessively attracted to her. After Celie nurses Shug, Shug begins to heal Celie, first as a mother figure, then feelings of self-worth.
Celie leaves Mr. ———, whom she now calls by his given name, Albert, and travels to Memphis with Shug. After Pa dies, Celie inherits her childhood home, which also includes a dry goods store. She returns to her hometown and sets up a small business selling Folkspants—a line of pants of her own creation. Albert eventually returns to Celie as a transformed figure who now respects her, and the two work side by side, with Albert sewing matching shirts for her pants business.
Following the Civil War, most Black Americans remained un-human and were typically viewed as less than human by many members of white society. Women were also regarded as less important than men—both Black and white—making Black women doubly disadvantaged. Black women of the era were often treated as slaves or as property, even by male members of their own families.
The relationship sofia and harpo had is an example of how relationships were. Black women were always degraded even after the time of slavery. During slavery was even worse, they were beaten for having children. But that has all chanded. Still black women are considerd ignorant by some people, they are still human beings and it is sad it so long for Americans to notice it.
