Roles are parts or acts played by a person. They are very important to an act. Then themes are subjects of discourse, discussion or topic. Roles and themes are very important to stories especially in “The Color Purple.” In this story they have a lot of roles which contribute to the theme. In the story there is a role played by a girl named Sofia. The next paragraphs are going to be talking about Sofia.

In the story they described Sofia very different from Celie. But in some way she had some common things with Celie. First of all Sofia did not have a lot of things in common with Celie but one thing. That thing was they both were pregnant young. They were young moms.

Then some things that were different were that in the story Celie was confused and didn’t stand up for herself. Celie was always getting beat up by her father and was forced to do things. In the story they described Sofia as an “Outspoken, independent and strong.” So Sofia stood up for herself and did not let anyone beat her for no reason, like in the story when Celie was beat up because her father thought she winked at a boy. In the story it said “after that Celie never rubbed her eyes again in front of her father.”

So if Sofia was Celie everything would be different. Celie would have never gotten pregnant by her father. Also she would have not been forced to marry a guy who was older than her. She would’ve been freer. But I also think that her father would have killed her.

In the story Sofia got pregnant when she was fifteen. She was Harpo’s girlfriend. Harpos was Nettie’s older step son. Sofia moved in with him in the story. It also said she loved him. She also spoke to Celie and the man she married.

In conclusion Sofia and Celie are opposites. Celie is weak and always being controlled. But Sofia was strong and independent. So she was not a pushover like Celie. That is why there are opposites.

So Sofia’s role in the story is to show how women are supposed to be. This contributes to the theme because women in the story are always getting mistreated. So Celie is the opposite of that. So I think in that as the story goes on Celie will learn from Sofia. This will help her in her life.

contributes means yo give or supply in common with others. A role is a set of connected behaviors, rights and obligations as conceptualized by actors in a social situation, The division of labor in society takes the form of the interaction among heterogeneous specialized positions.

The role sofia plays in the novel is a strong, fierce, and daring to a fault. sofia was different from all the other character, as told in the book she doesnt do what her man tells her to do liker the other women. she doesnt clean or do anything of the things wifes are supposed to do in the novel which make her different from them all.

As a black American woman who was raised in the South in the 1930s, sofia rejects completely to the systematic oppression that engulfed the position of a black marriage woman and in fact, it is her refusal to lessen or belittle herself that almost leads to her destruction.

Sofia is younger than Celie and much more stronger than her too. Sofia was meant to rule — not to take order.

She fights back when Harpo tries to rule her with an iron fist. She wants a partnership relationship in their marriage, not a master-servant relationship. Sofia is a devoted mother and an excellent sister to her sisters and she is generously forgiving. She even befriends Squeak her husband's mistress by volunteering to raise her child until Squeak is able to establish herself as a blues singer.

Although Sofia survives severe beatings during her imprisonment she pays much too much for being herself and in the process she loses much of her strength and dignity.

i like sofia's character she strong and knows no one can touch or do anything wrong to her, celie as an older sister to sofia, celie should have been a bit like sofia and be able to stand up for her self, maybe she wouldnt have been raped , beaten and all the other bad things that happened to her would have probably not happen like it did.

Sofia is the assertive woman that Celie is not. She won’t back down from a fight and if anybody picks on her, she beats them twice as hard as they give it to her. Celie admires this quality, but often times it just causes Sofia trouble. Her assertive nature tends to rub white people the wrong way.Sofia is also extremely honesty and willing to act on her emotions.

When she struggles, she says so. When somebody hurts her, she says so. When she’s mad, she acts on it. This is also, of course, what gets her in trouble. Celie never emulates Sofia, but Sofia serves as a visible reminder that Celie doesn’t have to take everything lying down, she can learn to stand up and fight.

Sofia is a robust youthful pregnant fifteen year old girl when Harpo introduces her to his family. Outspoken, independent, and strong, she speaks out to Mr.____ and Celie, lives with her sister Odessa, and loves Harpo.
Sofia is younger than Celie, which partially explains why she is unable to accept the confining role laid out by the system for the "meek" black maid and the "dutiful" black wife. Sofia was meant to rule not to take orders.

Sofia is powerful and physically strong. She is not subservient and has great strength of character as well. She can and does fight for what she wants, but of course her aggression results in her dreadful experience at the hands of the police after she dares to "talk back" to the white mayor, and her subsequent sentence to drudgery as the mayor's servant lasts for many years.

She fights back when Harpo tries to beat her. She wants a relationship where her and harpo are equals not a master-servant relationship. Sofia is a loving mother and an good sister to her sisters, and she is a forgiving person. She even become friends Squeak, her husband's mistress.

A black woman was a virtual prisoner in the system. White men controlled the state, and black men controlled the black households. Sofia had no chance in such a setting. She simply wasn't suited for it by her very nature.she suffers greatly for her independent spirit and impudence. As husband and wife, she and Harpo do battle for years, for she refuses to follow the expectations of the marriage lifestyle. She refuses to be tied only to housework and child rearing and works in the fields, like a man; she also expects Harpo to help with the house chores.

To me Sofia is comeone Celie can be if she sets her mind to it. Sofia in my opinion is the character who shows Celie that you have to fight to get the respect you want from others. Sofia doesn't care what people think of her, she just gets what she wants.

Women is a female human the term woman is usually reserved for an adult. Role is a set of connected behaviors, rights and obligations as conceptualized by actors in a social situation. Fear is an emotional response to a perceived threat. Around the time of the novel there was thousands of women felled with fear. I believe Sofia is an important character of this novel.

Sofia was a large independent woma. She had became friends with Celie and marries Harpo. Sofia refuses to follow orders from whites, men, or anyone else who tries to command her to do something. Sofia was not the type of person who sit and take orders from people. Sofia was the opposite of that, she was the one who made the orders.

Sofia grew up with nothing but brothers, so she was raised to be tough. Sofia whore the pants in her and Harpo relationship. Harpo didn't have a problem with that either. There was one person that had a problem with it and that was Albert who is Harpo's father. Harpo was Albert's oldest son so he expected him to be big and strong like he supposedly is.

Albert found a big problem about Harpo following orders from a women. Harpo likes his part of their relationship though. Harpo is the one who take care of the kids while Sofia fix things. So in one part of the story Harpo ask Celie for advice and he takes it. The advice was to hit Sofia and he did it and Sofia ended up beating him up.

Sofia was very brave and she always stood up for her rights. Back in that time women had no rights. People was also racist, Sofia was so brave that she stood up to the mayor who was white. She was sent to jail for twelve years. Later they changed it to twelve years labor as the mayor’s maid.

Sofia was a perfect role model to me. Back then it was rare to see a women stand up for whats her's because women didn't really have no say in anything back then. After Sofia served her years she was still the same. After all she went threw nothing changed about her that's amazing to me. There should have been more women like her back then.

In conclusion i believe Sofia is an important character to this novel. She is a brave women who always stood up for her rights. She someone you could look up too. She contributes to the book by showing readers that you should always stand up for your rights. Also that everyone should be treated the same because we are all equal to one another.

Role- a part or character played by an actor or actress. Everyone plays a role in something. Character- the aggregate of features and traits that form the individual nature of some person or thing. You character is who you are. It describes your personality and excludes you from everyone else. Contributes- to give (money, time, knowledge, assistance, etc.) to a common supply, fund, etc., as for charitable purposes. Sofai was barely metntioned in this book, but when she was, she noticebly stood out.

So far, this novel is based on Celie and the life she lived. Moving from one house to another because of her father's sorry ways and being forced to marry someone who she doesnt even know, she definitely went through it. However, she didnt let anything get in her way of happiness.

After moving in with Mr., Celie is introduced to his children. His spoil rotten children. They give her nothing but hell everyday and Mr. doesnt do anything about it. In the mix of these 5 kids, is Harpo, the oldest out of them all. Harpo is also the one who is going through it. After watching his mother die in his arms, he hasnt been the same. Not even after he meets Sofia.

Far on in the book, Celie's step-son, Harpo, meets a young lady name Sofia. He then marries her and together they have 5 kids. It was already bad enough that Harpo didnt really get his father's permisson, but now he had a BIG problem on his hands.

"All my life I had to fight. I had to fight my daddy, I had to fight my brothers, I had to fight my cousins, I had to fight my uncles. CHild aint safe in a family full of men." This above quote was said by Sofia. Sofia was a big woman. She didnt take any mess from anyone and she let that be known when Harpo decides he wants to beat her one day. Not expecting it, Sofia hit back and beats Harpo up. This causes Harpo to eat more and do more physical work. To build his body and weigh up. However, that doesnt work and the beating continues. It even got to a point where Sofia takes her kids and move away with her sisters.

Sofia was a strong, black women. She didnt let anything get in her way either. Not even her punk Husband. She went through so much in her life that it had came to a point where she didnt care and she only did what was best for her and then ones she loved (her children).

Celie had even looked up to Sofia because of her strong personality. Sofia was known as the one who "wore the pants", (besides Mr.), in the book. She didnt even let Mr. talk to her how he wanted to. She was definitely an important character, at the end of the day. Every little thing she did stood out, without a doubt. She played a wonderful role.

Role-proper or customary function.Character-the aggregate of features and traits that form the individual nature of some person or thing. Contributes-to give or furnish. What role will Sofia play in the novel? Sofia will play the role of the fearless leader who defies the stereotype that men run the relationship.

Sofia is considered as a fearless and tough woman. She is one who stands up for herself and bows to no man. So far in my reading its understood that she grew up with all men. Therefore she fought like one and defended herslf pretty well. She was unlike the typical woman who would cook and clean

Celie was the opposite of Sofia. Softspoken and fearful. She was one who wouldnt talk back she would do. Sofia was one who would fight tooth and nail before she obey a man's orders. With Celie the situation was different.

Sofia was the wife of Harpo. Who was the son of Mr. Celie's slave owner. Celie was often beaten by Mr. for Mr. to know he had control. Never did Celie fight back or even think of rasing a hand. All in spite of fear she would do as he asked without him saying a word. Sofia on the other hand was different.

Sofia and Harpo would always fight. Over the little things such as Harpo telling Sofia to do something and Sofia declining. With Sofia being raised with men she knew to fight and never let a man gain control. She was raised fearless and resilient in my opinion. There was nothing that could break Sofia for she was a emotionally well built woman.

Sofia's character in the novel will contribute to the storyline of women. Men believe the women are supposed to cook clean and have the babies. While Celie says nothing and obeyes the rule the men conduct Sofia goes against it and shows women are just as capable. Just as capable to work in the fields or to sit around and do nothing all day. Sofia stands up for the small percentage of women who are strong and believe they are just as good as men.

The theme of the book is based in the time period where men are the dominant sex. Sofia is an example of a man, just in a female's body. She is the hope for the small group of women who can do just as good as the average man. In conclusion Sofia will play the role of an inspirationalist. A woman who can stand up and show any other woman that they are equal and capable of doing anything a man can do.

Contributes means to give (time, knowledge, or assistance. Theme means an idea, or subject of matter. Character means one such feature or trait. Something that Sofia plays. How do you think She played this role? Lets just say she is a strong women, you'll see why.

She is hard working teen. She young. She is also a teen mom. She fights for her rights. She dont ever put her head down.

Celie dont fight for her own. She let people step all over her, like her father did. Her father raped her and beat her. She also had a baby from her father. Thats so called her "Man".

Some of the difference between Ceile and Sofia is that they got pregnant at an early age. Ceile lets her father beat her, but not Sofia. She stands up for herself. She feels like there is no point of getting step.

Sofia wants to have an equal relation with her husband. What I mean about that is that she want her and her husnband to have the same space. She wants to be equal by doing the same as her husband, but just he has to do his part as a man too.

She is in love with Harpo. But yet Ceile is over here forced to be with a man that dont really like her. The only why she there is because her father gaved her to him because he needed someone. He needed a housewife. ANd harpo and sofia are in a relationship.

In conclusion, Sofia stands up for herself. She plays a big role because she different from the others. She going to always stand up for herself. Even though she been through alot already because she young but she still doing what she gotta do.

Sofia is a very independent woman that happens to be Harpo’s wife. A theme is a subject of discourage, discussion, meditation or composition. Contributes is to give common supply of or fund. Characters are a main part of stories and books. Sofia plays a great role in this book which will be displayed in the following essay.

Sofia plays an important role in the book “Color Purple.” She’s everything Celie’s not. She’s strong confident and independent. She stands up for what she believe is right and don’t let anyone tell her otherwise. She has her mind set on what she wants to do and that’s what gets done.

Her role shows what a woman is suppose to do and how she is supposed to be treated. Compared to Celie she is the total opposite. Celie have the will power to be just like her, but she doesn’t have self-confidence, so it will never work. Celie let every man including her stepfather walk all over her, which causes her to feel helpless and down.

She contributes to the book in a very special way. A person takes her kindness for weakness when it’s really aggression. She’s like everything Mr. __ don’t want in a wife. She talks back, leave when she wants to, and will disrespect you if she feels disrespected. She never gives up on a battle, she fight until she likes the outcome.

Harpo love her a lot. But Mr. __ thinks she needs to be beat because he feels that she disrespects him. He said “a good woman would be better off beaten.” Harpo never hit a woman before and he picked a fight just to try it with Sofia. And the day that he did Harpo and her where going at it for hours.

Trying to follow after his father footsteps he got beaten instead of her. I honestly think you can’t battle with a strong black woman because she’s going to do what she feels is right for her and if she has kids her kids come first9which in this case she does). When he hit her it brings out a different aggressive side of her which is scary because she is way bigger than he is.

In conclusion she is a great asset to this book. She brings a different type of vibe to the story that makes you proud of reading it because Celie’s part makes you feel bad for her, but Sofia makes you jump for joy when she stands up for herself.

    Essay Question

Strength- the effective or essential properties characteristic of a beverage, chemical, or the like. Sofia is a rebel. She refuses to brought down by any man. Sofia is a strong minded and an independent woman. Sofia represents the power of a woman.
The setting of the book sets us back a couple of years after slavery. It also takes place in a southern society where whites are still the superior begins (money wise that is). In my opinion and observations of the book, so far, I realized that the black male is trying to immitate what the white man did many years ago (slavery). I believe they are starting off small but, they think a black man must control his wife.
Sofia is Harpo's wife. Harpo is pressured by his father, Mr.___, to "control his woman". Sofia refuses to be beat by the man she loves. She loves Harpo but not enough to let him beat her and take control of her. I don't believe that Sofia wants to be controlled but she wants to be treated as an equal.
Sofia is basically Celie's role model. She does things that Celie wishes she had the courage to do. Celie looks up to Sofia but fear is holding her back. Celie is constantly beat by her unwanted husband, Mr___. She does whatever he says, whenever he says for her to do.
Growing up was hard for Sofia. "Sofia is big" which means she was strong in both mind and body. She grew up fighting men all her life. It just has become an instict for her to fight back whenever she feels threatened. Sofia is a kind women but her own strength is holding back her true beauty.
Sofia reminds me of Shug Avery. Shug is also strong minded. She is basically the woman version of Mr.___. She talks down to Mr.___ as he does to Celie. She is mean but has a sweet side to her, which rarely shows. She has trust issues so this also hold her back from her inner beauty.
In conclusion, Sofia is a stron woman. A powerful woman. A woman with a good, strong, sound head on her shoulders. She represents the strength of a woman and refuses to be brought down by any man that comes her way.

Role means a function or part performed especially in a particular operation or process. There are people who play roles and they are actors. Contribute means to give or supply in common with others. When you work in groups you have to contribute to the work. Theme means a subject or topic of discourse or of artistic representation. In every story you read there is a theme. Do you really think Sofia has a role in this story?

There are so many things that you can say about Sofia. She is one woman that will stand up to anyone. I got that idea from when she said that she fought her daddy, and her uncle's off her. She also said that she would kill Harpo before she let him beat on her. So basically Sofia was not going to be beaten by anyone.

Sofia is the wife of Harpo. Sofia she rejects completely the systematic oppression that engulfed the position of the black woman. Sofia was meant to rule — not to take orders. Sofia is a devoted mother and an excellent sister to her sisters, and she is generously forgiving. She fights back when Harpo tries to rule her with an iron fist

So the role that I think that Sofia plays in this story the dominant women. The meaning of dominant is commanding, controlling, or prevailing to others. The meaning of woman is an adult female. I think that this defines Sofia all of the way. So that is what I think Sofia role is in this story.

The way that Sofia acts is how some women act today. Also how some women want to be. As said by some women, women can do the same thing a man can do so I think that by the women who said that they must want to be the dominant one. I honestly believe that. But on the other hand you have those women that are like Celie.

Celie to me she was too soft until the end when she stood up for herself that changed my whole perspective of her. But Sofia she was telling Celie that she should fight back when Mr. hits her. Celie said that she couldn't fight. But Sofia was trying to tell Celie that she needs to stand up for herself. But in the middle of the story Sofia she got knocked down a notch.

  13. Sofia is a character with a very strong and aggressive personality. Married to Albert's son, Harpo, he tries to dominate and beat her, taking after his father. Instead of submitting to this, she fights back, and on one occasion gives him a bruise. One day she runs into the mayor and his wife, Miss Millie. Miss Millie finds Sofia's children very "clean" and asks Sofia to be her maid.

Sofia rejects this offer in a mean manner; Hell no, she says. The mayor, offended by this, slaps her. Sofia hits him back and for this she is beaten by a mob of whites and sent to jail. Sofia is a very strong willed character and is a great role model for celie. Celie is not like sofia in many ways. Celie gets beaten and does not fight back but celie does making her a very powerfull black women.

Sofia is the assertive woman that Celie is not. She won’t back down from a fight and if anybody picks on her, she beats them twice as hard as they give it to her. Celie admires this quality, but often times it just causes Sofia trouble. Her assertive nature tends to rub white people the wrong way. But she does not care. She is ready to fight for her life than get beaten by a man.

In addition to her assertiveness, Sofia is also extremely honesty and willing to act on her emotions. This fact makes sofia important to the story.

Sofia refuses to submit to whites, men, or anyone else who tries to dominate her. After defying the town’s mayor, Sophia is sentenced to twelve years in jail, but the sentence is later commuted to twelve years labor as the mayor’s maid. The hardship Sofia endures serves as a reminder of the costs of resistance and the difficulties of combating cultural and institutional racism.

Sofia is on the main female characters that shows a lot of improtane to celie. Celie sees how Sofia stands up for herself to Harpo and to the white community as well. When Sofia becomes disgusted with Harpo's behavior toward her, she leaves him for awhile. When she returns, she taunts him with her new boyfriend, a prizefighter. Eventually, Sofia and Harpo reunite in a different relationship.

Miss Millie eventually pardons her and allows her to come to her home to raise her children and live as her maid. She spends a majority of the rest of her life raising young Eleanor Jane and running the household. Eventually she returns home to Celie and Harpo's after years of growing, learning, and changing into a kindhearted person that she use to be.
