ReplyDeleteIn the story 1984 Winston was found in the room in the junk store. He and Julia were arrested by the thought police. Then he was taken to a cell. There he met different people. He met co-worker and the parsons.
Then he met O’Brien. He was glad to see him. Then it turned out he was with the thought police. Then O’Brien Starts to torture him and to tell him how the brother hood is always right even when they are wrong. Every time Winston doesn’t agree he uses a dial to put Winston in pain.
They said they are trying to make sure they know Big Brother is right. They say they want to do that before they vaporize them. But also make their enemy agree with them. So Winston is willing to agree. That is how Winston is terrorized and why.

In the book 1984 Winston and his girl friend Julia was arrested and taken to jail which they call 'cell', and while in jail(cell) he met some of the people he had worked with and also i couple of new people.
later winston found out that O'Brien the man he had worked for was one of the police men. but even though O'Brien knew who winston was he still gave w Winston a hard time and put him in pain whenever Winston didn't believe what he said.
The interrogators were trying to make Winston believe or agree with them by making sure the big brothers were right in all they do. Even though their not as good as they make say, they even tried to make some of their enemy agree with them.

In the book 1984 Winston and Julia were arrested by the Thought Police. Winston was hungry and was starting to have pain in his belly. He had to share his cell with a woman that has the same last name as him.Was kept in the cell for days without being fed.
Winston was in the cell when O'Brien came in. O'Brien hit Winston in his elbow so hard that the pain was just to much to bare. Everything that O'Brien was a lie and he betrayed Winston and Julia. The guards wouls come and start to beat winstons so much that he would do nything they said. They would kick and punch him in the stomach, ribs, and groin. Winston used to hope that O'Brien would send a razorblade so he could comitte suicide.
The interrogators were trying to make Winston belive whatever they say. They wanted him to do whatever they ordered. To them beating him would make him remember that he belonged the Party. They wanted to destroy all the so called evil thoughts he had and make him believe anything. In all they wanted to change Winston.

An interrogator is a person who interrogates someone to get the truth out of them. To be terrorized means to fill or overcome with terror. Overriding means taking precedence over all other considerations. Big Brother had a party of people to interrogate people who were in disbelief of his words. Big Brother is trying to keep everyone under watch, by overriding them with pressure to agree to agree when their being terrorized in forceful conditions, unfair conditions.
Winston would feel great pain every time O’Brien asked him a question and answered it truthfully. In one section of the book Winston stated “I suppose there are four. Which do you wish: to persuade me that you see five, or really to see them?” This means that O’Brien is playing games with Winston’s mind. It is clearly four fingers and every time Winston say four, O’Brien raise the dial ten numbers higher which causes great pain. He is trying to show Winston that Big Brother can control ones actions even though they might be 100 percent correct.
“We, the party, control all records, and we control all memories. Then we control the past, do we not?” This quote clearly explain that during the interrogation O’Brien was trying to let Winston know, no matter what happens Big Brother will have control over your life and actions. Big Brother basically persuade everyone that his words is always right and who ever doubted his words would go to prison, get ordered to Room 101 and get terrorized until they agree to agree. Winston stood his ground until he had no choice but to give in. The reason why Winston gave in was because the pain was too much to cope with, along with O’Brien trying to stuff the words of Big Brother in his brain. Winston is a very smart and strong young because he didn’t let O’Brien stop him from changing his mind set.

The word terrorized means to dominate or coerce by intimidation. Interrogates means to ask questions of (a person), sometimes to seek answers or information that the person questioned considers personal or secret.
Winston was in love with Julia. Therefore, he set himself up. Where he lived, being in love was against the rules. He should have known he would be terrorized. Winston was terrorized when O'Bein entered his cell and began beating him up. He was only terrorized because he was in love with Julia.
Winston brotherhoood found out about Winston and Julia's relationship. As i stated before, that was against the rules. They tried to make Winston believe whatever they said. But that didnt work. Wintson and Julia were in love.
